BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed alleged on Saturday that the government is talking about the country's graduation to a developing one only to hide its failures by misleading people, reports UNB.
"The country's people want to see democratic practice and restoration of their rights.
As long as it won't happen the developing country will be considered as only a label nothing else," he said.
Speaking at a discussion, he further said, "They (govt) are telling people that the country has got the recognition of a developing country only to divert their attention to a different direction from the crucial issues and their failures."
Khaleda Zia Mukti Parishad organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club seeking BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, also said talking about development in a country where there is no rule of law and the independence of the judiciary is nothing but deceiving people.
He said the condition of some Awami League leaders and their men has drastically improved as they made huge money through corruption and plundering. "But the poor people's condition remains unchanged."
The BNP leader said there is point of talking about development here as the country has engulfed by corruption, misrule and unemployment due to corruption.
