The government is set to prepare a policy on payment of incentive bonus to all the employees of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), officials said.
A total of 17,280 employees of the country's two largest specialised banks are not now enjoying any incentive bonus. The government has taken a move to remove inequalities among other banks, they added.
"The finance ministry is going to make a policy on payment of bonus to the employees of the two banks," a high official of the Bank and Financial Institutions Division (BFID) said.
It is a good initiative if the policy is finally formulated, he said, adding that it would encourage the employees of the two banks to cope with their workload.
"We have sat in a meeting on the formulation of a policy on payment of bonus to the employees of the two specialised banks. We are now working on this issue," Additional Secretary of the BFID Kamrun Nahar Ahmed told the FE on Sunday.
Currently, there is no policy on payment of incentive bonus to the employees of BKB and RAKUB. There is such a policy in other specialised banks, she said.
In this regard, the BFID sat in a meeting recently. More meetings will be held at convenient time, said a senior official who was present at the meeting.
A draft policy on payment of incentive bonus is being prepared, a senior central banker said.
BKB is the largest specialised bank in the country. The primary objective of the bank is to provide credits to the farmers for development of agriculture such as crop production, fish culture and animal husbandry etc and to entrepreneurs engaged in development of agro-based and cottage industries.
BKB has an authorised capital of Tk 15,000 million and paid-up capital of Tk 9,000 million which is fully paid by the government. More than 13,680 people are working at the bank.
On the other hand, the authorised capital of RAKUB amounts to Tk 10,000 million and paid-up capital Tk 7,000 million. Reserves stand at Tk 208.50 million.
RAKUB is a state-owned bank with regional approach. The bank emerged as the government's plan of intensive care to agriculture in Rajshahi and Rangpur administrative divisions providing livelihood to 35 million people in the areas. Presently, the bank has a staff of around 3,600.
