Govt mulls framing law to stop terrorist activities in hartal

MADARIPUR, Dec 3 (BSS): The government is contemplating framing of a new law to stop terrorist activities during hartal, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said here Friday.
"Calling hartal is a democratic right. But none can support ransacking of vehicles as well as torching and damaging property in the name of hartal," he said while unveiling the plaque of foundation stone of Shikkha Bhaban Jam'e Mosque in the town.
Replying to a question from journalists, the minister said election is a constitutional process and it will have to be completed in the interest of the constitution.
"There is no link of the polls with the movements of the opposition, a elections and movements are completely separate matters," he added.
With President of Shikkha Bhaban Jam'e Mosque Dr Mia Md Abdur Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim, Madaripur Sadar Upazila Chairman Pavelur Rahman Shafique and former poura chairman Khalilur Rahman Khan.
Earlier, the shipping minister inaugurated the renovated building of Rajoir Upazila Auditorium.
