Govt mulls health ins for public servants

The Ministry of Public Administration handed over cheques on Sunday of Tk 60 million-Tk 0.5 million each to the families of 120 government officials and employees-who have died during their service in civil administration, reports UNB.
State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadek formally handed over the cheques to the families of the deceased public servants at city's BIAM auditorium.
The Public Administration Ministry in 2013 formulated a guideline to provide Tk 0.5 million if any government official or employee dies during his or her service in the civil administration while Tk 0.2 million in case of sustaining severe injury.
This is for the first time, the cheques of financial assistance are being provided to the families of the deceased government officials and employees who have died during their service.
She said the government is considering with importance for raising the facilities of the public servants, including introducing health insurance.
Ismat Ara Sadek said the issue of providing Tk 0.17 million instead of Tk 0.1 million from joint insurance fund is under process of the government if a public servant dies during his or her service.
She said the Awami League government has created about 0.45 million jobs in the revenue sector while made permanent over 0.118 million posts. Besides, over 21,000 government officials were appointed during the period through seven BCS exams.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Minister said the government is very much sincere to ensure overall welfare of the countrywide about 1.2 million government officials and employees alongside ensuring socioeconomic security and other facilities to them and their families.
