Govt must step down: BNP

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday claimed that there are many countries around the world where the youths played a vital role to free their respective countries. The fascist falls by the slogans and strengths of the youths.
He made the remarks before bringing out a procession in front of the central office of BNP in capital's Naya Paltan area on Monday.
Earlier on the day, leaders and activists of BNP from different areas of the capital gathered at the party's central office braving rain. A procession was brought out by the BNP men after a short briefing in the area.
Health affairs secretary of BNP Dr Rafiqul Islam presided over the event, which was moderated by general secretary of Dhaka district unit BNP Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, its central leaders Mir Sarfat Ali Sofu, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Abdus Salam Azad, Shyama Obaed among others were present.
Meanwhile, in another programme on Monday, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that the government allowed Jamaat to hold rally on Saturday (June 10) in the capital due to international pressure.
He said, "This (Awami League) government must step down. The government should return power to the people if they want a safe exit. People must get their rights to caste vote. The government will have to meet BNP's 10-point demand."
He came up with the assertion at a discussion organised by Swadhinata Oikya Parishad at the National Press Club. It was organised marking the 42th death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
About dialogue, the BNP leader further said that some of the ministers are now talking about dialogue.
"The dialogue may be held. However, the government must realise our 10-point demands first," he added.
Joint secretary general of BNP Moazzem Hossain Alal said that BNP men were fighting only to ensure people's rights.
He said that they were not unhappy as Jamaat was allowed to hold rally in the capital on Saturday. He said that Jamaat was fighting for its rights.
Meanwhile, in another programme, BNP vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on Monday said that there was no alternative to get rid of the present political crisis without movement.
He said, "Release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, return of Tarique Zia to Bangladesh and resignation of the present government are the only solution to the present crisis."
He made the remarks while speaking at a sit-in-demonstration programme in front of the National Press Club protesting the attack on adviser to BNP chairperson Habibur Rahman Habib and realising his party's 10-point demands, including the resignation of the government and holding a free and fair election under a neutral and non-partisan caretaker government. Jatiyatabadi Ganotantrik Parishad organised the event.
