Govt not repressing opposition like BNP

Sunday, 13 July 2014

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Saturday that the government was not thwarting the opposition like BNP but warned that any sort of violence and militant activities in the country would be contained with strong hands, reports BSS.
The minister said this following inauguration of digital class room of Amla Government College at Mirpur Upazila in Kushtia Saturday morning.
Replying to a quarry, the information minister said, "The allegation of repressing opposition by the government is completely imaginary. We are not containing the opposition-but the government is firm to take action against any activities like violence, sabotage and militancy."
Mr Inu said, "It is impossible for her (Begum Zia) to become an angel of democracy by forging allies with the communal forces like Jamaat and Hefazat-e-Islam".
He alleged that BNP leader Khaleda Zia is continuously staging drama with  democracy and war criminals and said, "It is not decent for her to speak about democracy as the BNP chief is maintaining allies with two communal forces like Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam".
The minister, however, said that it would be better for the country as well as  democracy if Khaleda Zia discard the drama on democracy which is being demonstrated with the evil forces like Jamaat, Hefazat and the 'Tetul Huzur'.
Local leaders, including district JSD president Golam Mohsin, general secretary Abdul Alim Shawpan, Upazila Awami League general secretary and upazila chairman Kamarul Arefin, JSD central leader Abdullah, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azad Jahan, among others, were present.
Later, the minister inaugurated 11 newly constructed establishments in different areas under the upazila.
Meanwhile, Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) and former Environment Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud warned Saturday that any attempt to create anarchy across the country in name of movement by BNP would be dealt with iron hand.
"They (BNP) did not specify after which Eid they will launch movement. In the past, they have given repeated threats to launch movement. They are talking now about movement to energise their frustrated leaders and workers. It can't be taken as granted that you will go for movement and appear in the courts wearing veils (Borkha) and helmets," he said.
The AL leader said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad (BSP) organised the discussion on "Current politics: Successes of Sheikh Hasina-led government" at the Bir Uttam Khwaza Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in the capital with its adviser Hasibur Rahman Manik in the chair.
Krishak League vice-president MA Karim, Non-government Teachers' Welfare Trust secretary general Principal Shahjahan Alam Saju, BSP president Md Zinnat Ali Khan, general secretary Md Fazlul Huq and assistant secretary of AL sub-committee Soheli Parvin Moni were the discussants, among others.
Dr Hasan said, "The conspiracies of BNP-Jamaat alliance are continuing in the country. For this reason, the anti-liberation forces identified as the political poison should be uprooted from Bangladesh."
