BNP accused Friday the government of creating obstacles towards holding the party-led 20-party's public rally in Comilla scheduled to be held today(Saturday), reports UNB.
"The government is carrying out various undemocratic acts ahead of Saturday's rally. The local administration and the ruling party are intimidating our leaders and activists and removing our posters and banners and creating barriers to erecting arches in different parts of Comilla, including Daudkandi and Chandina," said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He came up with the allegations at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
Mentioning that creating obstacles to the opposition's programmes is an old habit of Awami League, the BNP leader said adding the ruling party does not allow them to exercise their democratic rights though it cries for democracy only to deceive people.
Rizvi claimed that huge enthusiasm has been created among the people of Comilla and its adjoining areas over the rally. He also said the rally will turn into a human sea with spontaneous participation of people braving all obstacles. Rizvi said the present government is trying to hang on to power using the law enforcers as it hast not been elected with people's votes.
