Govt offers free agri inputs to boost aman production

FE REPORT | Monday, 29 May 2023

The government has announced a plan to provide agricultural inputs free of cost to farmers in order to expand and enhance Aman paddy production in the country this year.
The incentives, valued at over Tk 330 million, will be distributed among small and marginalised farmers.
These incentives aim to support a total of 490,000 farmers by providing them with seeds and fertilizer without any cost, thereby fostering an increase in Aman paddy production.
Under the incentive package, each farmer will receive five kilograms of high-yielding Ropa Aman variety (Ufshi) seeds, along with 10 kilograms of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 10 kilograms of Muriate of Potash (MOP).
An official at the Ministry of Agriculture said that the assistance for agriculture would be provided through the regular budget, specifically allocated for agriculture rehabilitation assistance and the seeds and saplings fund.
The official added that a government circular has been issued regarding this initiative and the distribution of the incentives in the form of agricultural inputs will soon be carried out at the grassroots level.
