Govt out to manipulate upazila polls: Rizvi

Wednesday, 19 February 2014

BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government is hatching various plots to manipulate upazila election results into its favour as they did in the January 5 parliamentary polls. Addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 11:30am, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also claimed that the ruling party men were capturing polling stations, forcing out the agents of BNP-backed candidates and casting fake votes in different upazilas across the country. Rizvi also accused the administration of assisting Awami League-supported candidates in election irregularities. Condemning the Election Commission’s ‘inactive’ role, Rizvi said the commission remains silent even after their party appraised it in a letter about their apprehension of such incidents, according to UNB
