The government has a plan to build Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Airport outside the capital, said Civil Aviation and Tourism secretary Shafiq al Mehedi Saturday.
The secretary said "It will be an international airport and a team has been engaged to do a pre-feasibility study with locations in Gazipur, Tangail and Mymensingh." "A tourism act with a provision of restricted tourist spot would be finalised soon to protect the country's tourist spots. The act would be placed in parliament in next year's first session".
He divulged the information at a press conference held at the National Press Club to announce the holding of a three-day long tourism fair.
The fair will kick off on December 10 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and will be organised by The World View, a monthly tourism magazine.
He said his ministry has been working to remove the problems faced by the passengers in the airport after International Civil Aviation Organisation raised question about safety issues of Zia International Airport.
The secretary said the tourism spot at Kuakata will be brought under municipality to develop the communication system.
He said the tourism sector would have a regulatory board which would include all stake holders of the sector.
