Govt plans to launch anti-trafficking campaign

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

The government will launch a countrywide mass awareness campaign against human trafficking, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said on Wednesday.
“Local administration and union parishad offices across the country will issue circulars tomorrow (Thursday) to launch a campaign to make people aware against human trafficking,” he told a views-exchange meeting with representatives of Reporters for Bangladeshi Migration (RBM) at his ministry.
Mentioning that there are laws with death penalty provision against human traffickers, the minister said the circulars will be issued to inform people about the harsher punishment for human trafficking so that they refrain from such criminal acts.
Asked about manpower recruitment to Malaysia under the government-to-government process, Khandaker Mosharraf said a particular group is working so that workers cannot go to Malaysia under the G-to-G arrangement.
He, however, said the government sent a delegation to Malaysia to boost manpower export the country, according to UNB.
