Govt plans to set up new film archive building

The government has taken a plan to build a new film archive building at a cost of Tk 750 million (75 crore) for preserving all kinds of films made so far in the country, reports BSS.
Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, additional secretary of the Ministry of Information, said that the Film Archive would be built under a three-year project in the city's Agargaon area and construction of the planned archive building will start in July next.
He said this while speaking at a brief discussion on the Public Library premises marking the 31st birth anniversary of Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA) after Sarah Begum Kobori, MP, inaugurated a day-long poster display.
BFA director general Dr Mohammed Jahangir Hossain, film producer Jahangir Alam, Photographer Latif Biswas, short filmmaker Morshedul Islam, film director Azizur Rahman took part in the discussion.
Kobori termed the poster display as a continuation of the country's decade-old cultural heritage. The variety of films, which were put on display, has enriched the film industry, said Kobori, a renowned film actress in 60s and 70s.
The film archive is directly linked to the existence of the people of the country, she said expresing the hope the Information Ministry will help preserve the films for the sake of protecting the films for next 100 years.
