Govt pledge-bound to alleviate poverty, says Nanak

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak Saturday said the present government is pledge-bound to alleviate poverty in the country within the quickest possible time, reports BSS. He was speaking at a views exchange meeting with BCS health cadre officers and LGED engineers who are participating in foundation training courses at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in Comilla. Jatiya Sangsad Whip Mujibul Haq, MP, and Nasimul Alam Chowdhury, MP, attended the meeting as special guests. BARD Additional Director General M Mir Quashem presided over the meeting where 90 participants of three ongoing foundation training programmes were present. The state minister said the BADR is a national institution engaged in rural development and has been conducting foundation training programmes for the BCS health cadre officers for the last three decades. It is also holding similar programmes for the LGED engineers, he added. Jahangir Kabir Nanak said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed delivering health services to rural people. Therefore, the physicians in government services should stay in their respective work stations, he added. The government has introduced community clinics to deliver healthcare to the doorsteps of the people, the state minister said. Earlier, the state minister formally inaugurated the newly constructed guesthouse of BARD.
