CHITTAGONG, June 01: Overall construction work including annual development projects (ADP) of the government are being hampered seriously due to high price of steel products and other construction materials.

While talking to the FE, Managing Director of Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills Ltd (BSRM) Alihussain Akberali said price hike of steel products is not manipulated. It is rather due to high price of the steel products in the international markets and uneven import policy of the government.

He further said that recently the price of billet has gone up in the international markets.

In this connection, BSRM managing director said, they already sent a letter to different agencies of the government suggesting to procure sufficient steel products including mild steel rods through tender for the greater interest of the country. Such tenders may be invited from among the local mills or from overseas suppliers immediately. Otherwise ADP of the government will be disrupted seriously.
