Govt preparing roadmap for true democracy: Mainul
Saturday, 16 June 2007
FARIDPUR, June 15 (BSS): Law and Information Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein said here today that the present caretaker government (CG) was preparing a roadmap for establishing true democracy in the country.
"Malice and vengeance caused huge damage to our national life. The country was deprived of real democracy and leadership in the name of party politics in the past," he said while addressing as the chief guest a function at Faridpur District Bar Association auditorium.
The district bar association organised the function to accord receptions to four lawyers on the occasion of their completion of 50 years in legal profession.
The adviser said the nation witnessed elections many times in the country. But democracy was dimmed through those elections.
The present government wants to go back to the main stream of democracy and it is working relentlessly to hold a fair and transparent election in the country, he added.
Barrister Hosein said the present government had to take over in a critical situation. Later, it has been possible, with the cooperation and efforts of the army, to get information about injustice and corruption during the past regimes.
Such types of corruption and injustice are humiliating for the nation and the present government is working tirelessly so that these things cannot occur again in the country, he added.
Good governance can be established in the country through real democracy, the adviser said and added the government is trying to build a happy, prosperous and corruption-free Bangladesh by establishing democracy and justice.
The sort of politics that had led the nation towards disaster would have to be reformed, Mainul said, adding the chance has come now to `correct ourselves' and march forward on the right path.
Faridpur District Bar President Munshi Mofazzal Hossain presided over the function while Bar General Secretary Alhaj Advocate Liakat Ali Khan Bulu delivered the address of welcome.
Faridpur Deputy Commi-ssioner (DC) Yahya Bhuiyan, District and Sessions Judge Abdul Majid, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abu Hena, Joint Forces representative Major Anisur Rahman and distinguished persons were present at the function.
Those who were accorded receptions on completion of 50 years in legal profession are Advocate Sarwarjan Mian, Advocate Shahabuddin Ahmed, Advocate Abu Alam and Advocate Syed Nurul Haq.
On behalf of the district bar, the law adviser presented them with certificates, crests, bouquets and other gifts.
Earlier, the adviser laid the foundation of the second building of Faridpur Bar to be constructed at a cost of Tk 8.6 million (86 lakh).
