Govt protecting Rab: BNP

Wednesday, 14 May 2014

The government is protecting the three former officers of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) accused of killing seven people in Narayanganj, BNP has alleged. The three men were forced into retirement but they will continue to enjoy all privileges, claimed BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a press briefing at Naya Paltan in the city on Wednesday. “There is still no initiative to arrest them because one of them is son-in-law to a powerful minister. So they are being protected.” Former Rab-11 Commander Lt Col Tarek Sayeed, Lt Commander NM Rana and Maj Arif Hossain stand accused of carrying out the murders of Ward Councillor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and five others after being heavily bribed. Sayeed is married to the daughter of Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, according to bdnews24.com.
