Govt pry school asst teachers demand separate pay scales

JHENIDAH, Mar 1: Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers' Society, Jhenidah unit, held a daylong meeting and festival on Water Development Board Jhenidah premises on Friday.
District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) Dilip Kumar Banik was present in the programme as chief guest with Md. Maniruzzaman, assistant teacher, Pabohati Govt. Primary School in the chair while Nasrin Sultana, Convener, Primary School Assistant Teachers' Society, central committee, Abdul Halim and Abdur Kader, Joint-conveners of the same committee attended the function as special guests.
In the said meeting, among others, the following demands were placed for consideration of the government authorities:
A separate pay scale for them; pay scale of the Assistant Teachers of government primary schools be fixed just after the pay scale of the headmasters; the posts of Assistant Teachers should be recognized as 'entry point' and promotions should be released on 100 per cent basis; and the criteria for appointment of govt. Primary School Assistant Teachers be revised and nomenclature of Assistant Teachers should be upgraded as Primary Teachers.
