Govt putting sincere efforts for women’s empowerment: Muhith

SYLHET, Apr 5 (BSS): Stressing need for taking more steps for empowerment of women, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said today Bangladesh's success in empowerment of women has been acclaimed worldwide because of the government's sincere efforts.
"Women participation in government jobs was only 7 per cent about 40 year back but their participation has witnessed significantly and stood at 30 per cent now," said the finance minister while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of Sylhet division women football tournament here.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a number of international prizes in recognition to her sincere efforts for empowering women.
Women are now getting a lot of opportunities in education, sports and jobs which were not available even a decade back, he added.
Sayeda Zebunnesa Haque, MP, DC of Sylhet Md Shahidul Islam, chairman of Rupali Bank Dr Ahmad Al-Kabir and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Ejaz Ahmed, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
In the tournament, Sylhet District became champion while Sunamganj District runner-up.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the development work of Kadamtali Point Jame Mosque.
