The IFC 10th International Food Safety Forum will be held today (Sunday) in Bangladesh aiming to promote safe and nutritious food production as well as to prevent losses from wasting foods.
International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority are jointly organising this event at a city hotel. It was announced at a press conference on Saturday, organised by BFSA at its office in the city.
Chairman of BFSA Kaywom Sarker said in order to enhance awareness about food safety and to promote cooperation and coordination between the public and private sectors, IFC organises this event in collaboration with the key regulators and coordinators of food safety from various countries every year.
Now this international event is being organised in Bangladesh with the title "Keeping Food Safe and Nutritious, Preventing Losses".
IFC, Global Lead (Food Safety Advisory), Ms Natia Mgeladze said her organisation is eager to help Bangladesh to ensure food safety and nutrition as well as to prevent losses from food.
She also put emphasis on the role of the private sectors which could contribute to capacity building and could effectively address challenges in the field.
She expected the forum would be able to promote the expansion of safe and nutritious food production and establish various levels of government and private sector coordination in the field of food and agriculture.
The inaugural ceremony of the forum is expected to be attended by food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, agriculture secretary Wahida Akter, and food secretary Ismail Hossain.
