CHITTAGONG, July 18 (BSS): The government has raised manpower of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) to 519 to improve capacity and service standard.

Ministry of Housing and Public Works has approved recently a reform in the CDA organogram that has dissolved 53 obsolete posts and created 51 new ones to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the organisation.

As per new organogram, some newly created key- posts are Chief Town Planner (post-1), Deputy Chief Town Planner (post-1), Deputy Secretary (post-1), Public Relations Officers (post-1), Assistant Authorised Officers (post-4), Senior Architect (post- 1), Data Entry Operators (post- 4) and GIS Operator (post-3).

The 53 posts were abolished includes 22 posts of assistant planning officers, one posts of senior accounts officer, 22 posts of overseers, 3 posts of sub- overseers , 8 posts of sweepers and 7 posts of chainmen and some other posts of 3rd and 4th class employees.

CDA was formally started functioning on July 25 in 1959 with 450 kilometres of its area of jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, it has expanded its area of jurisdiction to 1154 kilometres from the previous 450 kilometres following a 20-years master plan in 1995.

But the organisation had to work with old administrative set- up due to lack of an efficient organogram fit to meet the demand of the time.

CDA officials said the organisation has been facing serious problems in implementing time-befitting development schemes and various supervisory activities in checking unauthorised building structures due to lack of adequate efficient manpower.

The present caretaker government took steps to check unbridled corruption and bring dynamism in the overall activities of CDA by implementing a drastic reform measures.

As a part of the reform programme, the CDA authority sent a proposal to the ministry concerned in August last year seeking extensive reshuffle in existing organogram.

Talking to the news agency, CDA Chairman Engr Shah Mohammad Akhtaruddin said the overall expenditure of CDA against salary head under the new organogram will not be increased following the creation of new posts.

He said the reshuffle would help bring dynamism in the CDA activities, increase its efficiency and productivity side by side help city-dwellers to get quick and improved service.

Necessary steps to be taken soon to recruit officials against the newly created posts, the CDA chairman said.
