Govt rejects Odhikar report

Tuesday, 10 January 2012

The government has dismissed the report of rights group 'Odhikar' that the state has resorted to incidents of 'disappearance' as a strategy and accused the opposition of sponsoring it instead.
"The State doesn't sponsor the incidents of disappearance… rather it' s a strategy of the Opposition and they have a role behind it," State Minister for Home advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku told UNB on Sunday.
On Saturday, Odhikar in its annual report said, "The incidents of extrajudicial killings in the name of crossfire declined while that of disappearance marked a rise. Under the circumstances, it seems that the State in the face of pressure, both from home and abroad, has chosen this strategy."
