Govt set to sign MoU with ONGC

The government is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian state energy group ONGC to transship over dimensional consignments (ODCs) through Ashuganj for Palatana power project in Tripura.
Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Law have cleared the way for signing the MoU by vetting and the Roads and Highway Division under the Communications Ministry will sign the agreement with ONGC, an official of the Communication Ministry said.
"The MoU is expected to be signed today (Tuesday) or tomorrow," he said.
An ONGC team is now in the city to sign the MoU where the transshipment modality is spelled out, he said, adding, "The ODCs will come from Kolkata by river route to Ashuganj port and it will pass through Senarbadi check post in Brahmanbaria."
The Indian government will pay for the infrastructure development required for transshipment, said Sheikh Mahfuz Hamid, managing director of Gulf Orient Seaways.
ONGC has appointed Gulf Orient to supervise the smooth transshipment of ODCs in Bangladesh.
"Gulf will appoint Bangladeshi contractors to develop a roro jetty at the port, 16 by-passes, parking bay at every 5 kilometres and 15 kilometres road widening," Mr Hamid said adding, "It is expected that Tk 600 million will be required for the development work."
The Indian government will bear all expenses and transshipment of consignment will take place within two months after signing the MoU, he said.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) along with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) and Tripura government has set up ONGC Tripura Power Company for the implementation of 726.6 mw power project at Palatana in Tripura.
