Govt sets subsidised prices for meat, milk, eggs during Ramadan

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 3 February 2026

Like every year, the government will sell key animal protein items at subsidised prices during the upcoming Ramadan to help ease pressure on consumers, officials said on Sunday.
Under the programme, beef will be sold at Tk 650 per kg, milk at Tk 80 per litre, eggs at Tk 96 per dozen (Tk 8.0 per piece), and dressed poultry meat at Tk 250 per kg, according to decisions taken at a meeting on Ramadan-focused fair-price sales held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter directed officials to expand the number of sales points compared to last year to ensure wider access for consumers.
This year, the government plans to sell the subsidised products at 48 designated locations across the country.
Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Dr Md Abu Sufian said the fair-price sales programme would continue during Ramadan, as in previous years.
"We want to ease the hardship of fasting people during Ramadan. That is why we are working on this programme," he said.
He added that discussions have already been held with relevant stakeholders and suppliers to ensure smooth implementation, noting that sales would be arranged at more locations than last year.
Market prices of these items remain significantly higher than the government-set rates.
According to trading sources, beef is currently selling at Tk 720-780 per kg, dressed broiler chicken at Tk 350-400 per kg, live broiler at Tk 180-190 per kg, milk at Tk 100 per litre, and eggs at Tk 110-120 per dozen in the open market.
The subsidised sales are part of the government's annual initiative to stabilise prices of essential commodities during Ramadan, when demand typically rises.
