Govt taking steps to implement AL\\\'s election manifesto

The government has started putting all out efforts to implement its election manifesto-2014 aiming to achieve socio-economic freedom of the people and overall development of the country, sources said.      
The government's long term objective is to take ahead Bangladesh to the level of the developed countries of the world.  The present government will prepare the specific perspective plan and subsequent five year plans to achieve this long term objective, after the implementation of Vision-2021, sources added.
In this connection, the government has directed the ministries and different departments concerned to send a report identifying priority sectors with implementation proposals according to the election manifesto-2014 by Tuesday next, officials said.
A review meeting on the reports submitted by the ministries and different departments will be held April 01 next to decide on steps which will be sent to the cabinet division by April 03 next, they said.
Letters to this effect have been sent to most of the offices and the rest will be sent today or tomorrow.
The reports will be sent to administration and coordination wing-(1) of the ministry of finance.
Bangladesh Awami League announced 26-point election manifesto titled: "Marching Ahead Bangladesh: Road to Peace, Democratic Development and Prosperity" December 28 last.
"The sixth five-year plan will be executed by 2015 while seventh five-year plan will be prepared. "Per capita income would increase to US$ 1500 from current US$ 1040 after the execution of the long-term perspective plan", according to the manifesto-Õ14.
The long-term perspective plan envisages increase in the country's economic growth rate to 10 per cent from current 6.2 per cent and reduce poverty rate to 13 per cent from 26 per cent.
Power generation in the country will be increased to 24,000 megawatt by 2021 while contribution of industry to national revenue will rise to 40 percent from current 25 per cent.
Ensuring good governance, democratization and decentralization of power, improving living standard of the people, keeping the prices of essentials stable and fighting poverty etc. have been included in the manifesto-2014.
