Govt targets ‘electricity for all’ by 2030

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid Sunday directed his ministry officials and those working for subordinate bodies to work with a pro-people outlook.
He said the officials who work at the field level must work with positive mindset, and behave in a pro-people manner with positive outlook to provide best service to the electricity consumers.
The directive came from the state minister while he was addressing a meeting to review the implementation status of different projects under annual development programme (ADP). The meeting reviewed total 68 projects and found the implementation progress at 25.68 percent until October, 2014, according to a news agency.
Nasrul Hamid, however, expressed dissatisfaction over delay in some important and priority projects’ implementation.
Power Secretary Monwar Islam, top officials of the ministry and chiefs of different entities in power sector were present at the meeting.
The State Minister asked the officials to work keeping in mind the government target of improving the per capita electricity consumption to 1000 kilowatt hours from the present level of 300 plus kilowatt hours.He also announced the government’s target to ensure electricity for all by 2030.
He directed the officials to install pre-paid meters for all the power consumers within the next three years.
The state minister asked the Rural Electricity Board (REB) to set up a public relation cell to receive the consumers’ complaints and opinions.
