Govt to accept spontaneous cooperation of donors: CA

Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed on Sunday night said the government would cordially accept spontaneous cooperation of development partners at home and abroad in dealing with the exigencies caused by the raging floods in the country, reports UNB.
In his address to the nation in the wake of flooding, he made an appeal for all sections of people of the country, irrespective of class and profession, to come forward to join relief and rehabilitation operation for helping the flood-stricken people.
The head of caretaker government made the appeal in his address to the nation on the country's flood situation and government steps, which was telecast by the state-run radio and television as well as private TV channels.
"Any natural disaster like flood brings an opportunity for the nation to stand united, and now has come such a scope. People of various classes and professions of the country had extended their helping hands to distressed people during disaster also in the past," Dr Ahmed said, expressing his firm belief that this time also all will come up extending their helping hands.
The Chief Adviser of the caretaker government called for facing the disaster unitedly equipped with whatever one has. "Let us stand beside the helpless flood-affected people hand in hand imbued with the sprit of human welfare and patriotism."
Dr Ahmed struck a note of optimism that, like in the past, the country would be able to successfully face the calamity through combined efforts.
The CA urged the business community to show their social obligation keeping the prices of commodities at tolerable levels at this hour of disaster.
He said a trend of increase of some essential items' prices is being noticed alongside rising floodwaters.
The CA informed the nation that on government's behalf, the system of monitoring prices of commodities at various levels is being strengthened.
He further said the overall responsibility was allocated to the members of the Advisory Council Sunday to monitor the relief operation in every flood-hit district. They (advisers) will also inspire the people to take part in the relief activities.
