Govt to build cultural zone centring Suhrawardy Udyan: Minister

Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad Friday said the government has taken a plan to build a cultural zone centring the Race Course Maidan (Suhrawardy Udyan), reports BSS.
He was addressing the launching function of Jagoroner Gaan-2 (an album of gonosangramer gaan sangkalan) at Independent Monument at Suharawardy Udyan here.
Director General of Shilpakala Academy Kamal Lohani, Faridur Reza Sagar of Channel-i and President of Jagoron Sangskriticharcha and Gobeshona Kendra Prof Abdul Khalek, among others, addressed function.
Commemorating the historic address of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) on March 7 in 1971, Azad said Bangabandhu delivered the greatest address of history at this Race Course Maidan.
He said Bangabandhu in a virtual announcement of independence declared "--- Ebarer sangram amader muktir sangram, ebarer sangram swadhinatar sangram (our struggle this time is the struggle for emancipation, our struggle this time is the struggle for independence)".
Responding to the call of Bangabandhu, people of all levels joined the War of Liberation against the Pakistan occupation forces to free the motherland, the minister added.
The minister said unfortunately anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu along with his family members on August 15, 1975 when he dedicated himself to build the war ravaged Bangladesh.
He said, his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to build a `Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Bangabandhu.
The minister urged people of all levels to extend their cooperation for building a prosperous country.
