Govt to buy 13m litres of palm olein, 2,000 tonnes of lentil

The government has approved procurement of 13 million litters of refined palm olein and 2,000 tonnes of lentil to sell at subsidised rates among the poor people amid price spiral of the key essential commodities.
The approval was given on Thursday at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase with Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair, held at Bangladesh Secretariat.
After the meeting, finance division officials informed that the palm olein will be imported from a US-based company namely Powerhouse General Trading LLC.
To be supplied to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the procurement will cost the exchequer Tk 1.81 billion.
Under another approval, Dhaka-based company the Ease Services Ltd will supply 2,000 tonnes of lentil to TCB at a total cost of Tk 156 million.
Officials said the cabinet meeting also approved a proposal to import 30,000 tonnes of rock phosphate for Triple Super Phosphate Complex Limited from M/S Gentrade FZE, UAE at a total cost of Tk 873 million. Each tonne of rock phosphate will cost US$223.90.
Also, the meeting approved a proposal of the Bangladesh Bridge Division for renovation, widening, and strengthening Jamuna Bridge deck and associated works at a cost of Tk 2.78 billion.
The committee also approved a proposal regarding supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment under establishing external telecommunication network for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
The ZTE Corporation, China will provide the service at cost of Tk 616 million.
