Govt to buy rescue equipment at Tk1.59bn

The government is procuring equipment costing Tk1.5891 billion for conducting quick rescue operation immediately after any disaster.
"We have already procured modern equipment from various countries at a cost of Tk630 million to conduct immediate rescue operation during any disaster," Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya told the House, while replying to a question from Jatiya Party member Peer Fazlur Rahman.
He said the modern equipment to be procured more would be used for expediting and infusing dynamism into rescue operation in the aftermath of any disaster either natural or manmade.
"The government has also trained 30,000 volunteers under a project of CDMP for engaging them in rescue operation immediately after the natural disaster in the country," he said.
The minister said a map indicating earthquake hit risk is being prepared under the project.
