Friday, 5 February 2010

Home Minister Sahara Khatun said Thursday that the government would consider their pleas, if militants beg pardon for their activities.
"The militants must be tried on the soil of this country. But the government would consider, if they beg pardon," the minister said while inaugurating the newly formed Gandaria police station in the city, reports BSS.
Among others, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haq Tuku, State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Qamrul Islam, Mizanur Rahman Khan Dipu MP, Sanjida Khanam MP, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq and film actor ATM Shamsuzzaman addressed the function.
The home minister said the nation has become free from stigma through the trial of the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman 34 years after the killing.
The trial of the war criminals would also be held in the country in the same way, she asserted.
Sahara Khatun said the beneficiaries of the killing of Bangabandhu did not want the trial of the killers. They do not want the trial of the war criminals too, she added.
The home minister said the government would take initiatives to hold retrial of the Jail Killing Case.
Stressing the need for modernising police, the home minister said the government has undertaken a Tk 4.87 billion project to supply two pickup vans and motorcycles to every police station.
A process has begun to recruit 32,000 police personnel in next three years, she added.
The home minister said the country's law and order situation is now better than anytime in the past.
Addressing the function, the state minister for law urged all, including the people's representatives, to come forward to eliminate terrorism and militancy.
