Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Tuesday reiterated the government's firm stand on curbing corruption and bribery from the education sector, saying stern action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
"Stern action will be taken against those found guilty of corruption with enough evidences, no matter whether he is a high-paid government employee or just a tout," he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting with journalists at his secretariat office.
The minister said: "We were told of the corruption culture prevailing in the country's education sector that usually took place during the processes of monthly payment order registration, granting academic recognition, getting appointment, transfer, pension and leave. But action could not be taken in many cases due to lack of relevant evidences."
Replying to a question, the minister said there would be no such system of announcing top 10 schools or colleges on the basis of the SSC or HSC results from next year, as it might intensify the race of the students to secure a seat at those big-name institutions at any cost, which would help spread corruption.
Nahid also sought cooperation from all concerned to combat corruption, and promised to bring the culprits under trial on evidence.
He asked all to inform the ministry about any incident of corruption through telephone: 7161395, fax: 7163322 or email: minister@moedu.gov.bd.
