Govt to curtail ADP allocation of under-performed ministries

The government would curtail annual development programme (ADP) allocation of the under-performed ministries and the amount will be diverted to those ministries who showed better performance in implementing the ADP, reports BSS.
"The decision will be taken after reviewing the progress of ADP until April next," Planning Secretary Habibullah Mazumdar told a press briefing after a meeting of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) Tuesday.
He added that the rate of ADP implementation by the different ministries until February was 39 per cent.
Meanwhile, the ECNEC Tuesday approved seven development projects involving Tk 10.13 billion, including a Tk 3.07 billion project aid.
The meeting was held in the NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the ECNEC chairperson, presiding.
The projects okayed by the ECNEC are the Project to Protect Shahbazpur Gas Field (2nd Phase) from the Erosion of the Meghna River in Borhanuddin Upazila in Bhola district under the water resources ministry, the Expansion, Renovation and Modernisation Project of Bangabandhu Poverty Reduction Training Complex, Kotalipara, Gopalganj under the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, the Establishment of Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh Complex (KIB) Project under the agriculture ministry, the Establishment of Five Institutions of Marine Technologies at Munshiganj, Faridpur, Chandpur and Bagerhat Project under the expatriates welfare and overseas employment ministry, the Strengthening DESCO's Electric Distribution Network (revised) Project under the Power Division and the Mobarakpur Oil/Gas Exploration Well-Digging (revised) Project under the energy and mineral resources ministry and the Chittagong WASA's Emergency Water Supply Project under the Local Government Division.
Finance Minister and Alternate Chairman of ECNEC Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Planning Minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandakar, Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed, Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, advisers to the Prime Minister HT Imam, Dr Mashiur Rahman, Dr Modasser Ali, Dr Alauddin Ahmed and Dr Tawfique-e-Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Enamul Haque attended the meeting.
Cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, concerned secretaries and high officials were present.
