Govt to cut NU honours course to three years

Monday, 10 February 2025

The government has announced plans to shorten the four-year honours programme at the National University (NU) to three years, reports bdnews24.com.
M Aminul Islam, special assistant to the education advisor, revealed the decision on Sunday during an event at the International Mother Language Institute in the city, marking International Education Day.
"The four-year honours programme at the NU will be reduced to three years," Aminul said. "In the fourth year, students will receive extensive education in diploma and technical subjects. Upon completion, they will be awarded two certificates."
He explained that graduates would receive both an honours certificate and a diploma, ensuring broader recognition and better job prospects.
Confident in the impact of this change, he described it as a "novel and extraordinary decision" that would naturally improve employment opportunities without additional efforts.
