Govt to distribute 325m textbooks free of cost next year

The government will distribute about 325.0 million textbooks free of cost among 40 million students of primary and secondary levels next year (academic year of 2015), reports BSS.
"The number of drop- out students has significantly reduced meantime due to the time-befitting step of the present government through distributing free textbooks among the students of primary and secondary levels," chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Prof Abul Kashem Mia told the news agency.
He hoped that the books are expected to reach all district and upazila headquarters by November 30 this year.
Prof Kashem said apart from the pre-primary level books, the work order for printing and binding of books has been issued for 221 institutions.
