JESSORE, Feb 13 (BSS): The government has decided, for the first time, to distribute over 2.2 million computerised professional identity cards among the farmers of 10 South-Western districts to boost agricultural production in the country.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said it was expected the cards would be distributed among the farmers from February 17.
Sources said the cards would contain the name and address, national ID card number, of the farmer, his total land, condition of irrigation, cultivation of crops, fertiliser, seeds, irrigation, pesticides and other details.
The government would also distribute fertiliser, seeds, pesticides and agriculture subsidy among the farmers on the basis of their identity cards.
The farmers of Jessore district told the news agency that the government had stepped up measures by distributing identity cards among the farmers to save them from harassment in getting agri-inputs and services.
They said the introduction of identify cards would open a new chapter in boosting production in agriculture sector.
Farmers of Jessore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagherhat would get 22,13,827 identity cards.
