The government has taken initiatives to form tourist police for the tourist spots like Cox's Bazar to ensure security of local and foreign tourists besides protecting biodiversity to further improve the country's tourism sector.
Replying to a question from independent lawmaker Mohammad Fazlul Azim, on behalf of BNP member Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said around 82 personnel under different ranks including one ASP have already be deputed primarily for the tourist police unit, reports BSS.
"Because of formation of the tourist police, it will be possible to protect the biodiversity and ensure the security of local and foreign tourists more effectively", the Prime Minister said.
Responding to a supplementary from Fazlul Azim, Hasina said the past BNP-Jamaat alliance government did not take any measure for resolving the problems in respect of salary and allowance, rationing and procurement of modern vehicles and machineries for the police force.
After assuming power, she said, the present government has taken steps for resolving these problems.
In this connection, she mentioned that the past AL government from 1996 to 2001 carried out many development works besides providing risk allowance and procuring modern machineries for the police.
