Govt to formulate law to protect RMG industry: Minister

CHITTAGONG, Apr 12: Nominees of 20 dead workers, who died in service in 17 garment industries, received group insurance cheques at the conference room of BGMEA Regional office in the city Sunday.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua distributed the cheques among the recipients as the chief guest and expressed his interest for formulating necessary laws for protecting the garment industry.
Empowerment and social security of women have been ensured through adequate employment of women in the Readymade Garment (RMG) industries. Dilip Barua said
The minister also assured of all co-operation for the greater interest of keeping the onward march of the RMG sector uninterrupted.
BGMEA 1st Vice-President Nasiruddin Chowdhury, while presiding over the function said, group insurance is mandatory in every garment industrial unit for the greater welfare of the workers. In this context he said in case of death either accidental or natural the successor of the deceased worker is entitled to get Tk 0.1 million under the group insurance scheme.
