FE Report
The council committee on government Wednesday approved the import of 0.1 million (1.0 lakh) tonnes of fertiliser from two Middle Eastern countries - Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"Fertiliser will be imported under state-to-state level contract bypassing open tender," Finance and planning adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam told the waiting newsmen after a meeting of the committee.
He said the council committee on economic affairs had earlier approved the import of fertiliser from Kuwait and the UAE under the said mechanism.
In Wednesday's meeting the purchase committee, chaired by the finance adviser, also approved appointment of a consulting firm for the second Rural Infrastructure Development Project.
Four donor agencies - the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Department for International Development (DFID), the German-KfW and the GTZ - will provide financial support for the implementation of the project.
The meeting also endorsed appointment of a management and training consultant for the Urban Primary Health Care project.
It, however, sent back a joint-venture project proposal from the private sector for installing a 50-megawatt (MW) power plant at Fenchuganj in Sylhet on rental basis.
The joint venture proposal was sent back to Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) asking it to evaluate the issue and submit it again to the purchase committee.
It also asked the authorities of the Ghorashal Urea Fertiliser Factory to submit a fresh report elaborating the damage caused by a recent explosion.
