Govt to import Tk 75b refined petroleum products this FY

The government will import around 1.9 million tonnes of refined petroleum products from different countries at a cost of Tk 75 billion for the fiscal year (FY) 2014-15.
The Cabinet Committee on Purchase, at a meeting on Wednesday, gave approval for importing the refined petroleum products and wheat and bulk MOP (Muriate of Potash) fertiliser.
"The government will import over 1.9 million tonnes of refined petroleum products at a cost of Tk 75 billion from Kuwait, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia and Turkey," Joint Secretary of the cabinet division Mostafizur Rahman told the media after the meeting.
The country will import 90,000 tonnes of gas oil at US$ 4.60 per barrel and 80,000 tonnes of furnace oil at the rate of $ 29.95 per barrel from Emirates National Oil Company (Singapore) Pte Ltd.  
PB Trading Sendirian Berhad of Brunei will supply 60,000 tonnes of gas oil and 20,000 tonnes of furnace oil at $ 6.60 and $ 29.95 per tonne respectively.   
The Petco Trading Labuan Company Ltd (PTLCL) of Malaysia will provide 255,000 tonnes gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60 per barrel, five thousands tonnes of kerosene at a rate of $ 5.50 per barrel, 70,000 tonnes of Jeti-1 at a rate of 5.50 barrel and 80,000 tonnes of furnace oil at a rate of $ 29.90 per tonne.      
Petrochina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd will export 90,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60 per tonne and 40,000 tonnes of furnace oil at a rate of $ 29.95 premium.   
Petrolimex Singapore Pte Ltd of Vietnam will supply 30,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60 and 60,000 tonnes of furnace oil at rate of $ 29.95 premium.   
PNOC Exploration Corporation (PNOC EC) of Philippines will provide 105,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of 4.60 per tonne and 15,000 tonne of mogas at a rate of $ 7.30 per tonne and 40,000 tonnes of furnace oil at a rate of $ 32.95 per tonne.
PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) of Indonesia will supply 30,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60, 40,000 tonnes of furnace oil at a rate of $ 32.95 per tonne.  
Turkish Petroleum International Company will export 30,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60 per tonne.
Unipec Singapore Pte Ltd of China will supply 60,000 tonnes of gas oil at a rate of $ 4.60 per tonne and 40,000 tonnes of furnace oil at a rate of $ 29.95 per tonne.  
Besides a total of 100,000 tonnes of wheat will be imported, in two lots of 50,000 and 50,000 separately, through international tenders.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presided over the meeting. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, among others, were present.
