Govt to launch campaign to create awareness about human trafficking
FE Report | Thursday, 12 June 2014
The government will launch a campaign from today (Thursday) to create awareness among the people about human trafficking in the form of lucrative job offer abroad.
To this effect, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry (EWOEM) will ask all local administration and union parishad offices across the country to conduct necessary publicity about the adversities of irregular migration.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, minister for EWOE said this Wednesday at a view exchange meeting with the representatives of Reporters for Bangladeshi Migrants (RBM) at the city's Probashi Kallyan Bhaban.
The minister said there are laws with provision of death penalty for human traffickers.
Circulars will be issued to inform people about the punishment for human trafficking so that they refrain from such criminal acts, he said.
The incidents of trafficking will decrease if people are made aware of the matter, he added.
The minister also said media have a great role to play to make the job seekers aware about irregular migration.
Responding to a query, Mr Hossain said they will send a delegation on June 24 to Malaysia to increase outflow of migration there.
He, however, said a vested quarter is active to hamper Government to Government recruitment process. But they will not be successful as the government is very much careful about it.
Secretary Khondaker Showkat Hossain, director general of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Begum Shamsun Nahar and RBM members were present at the programme.
