The government is going to approve a project proposal for earth-filling 918.5 acres of land for building the proposed 1320-megawatt thermal power plant at Rampal. The earth-filling work costs over Tk 3.37 billion, officials said.
To push forward the move on the much-talked-about coal-fired power plant near the Sunderbans, the Power Division has sent a proposal to the Cabinet Division for placing it before the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase at its next meeting.
A joint-venture company of India and Bangladesh has undertaken the project for building the major power plant to be fuelled by imported coal.
Besides, the government will procure three inshore patrol vessels (IPV) at a cost of over Tk 2.66 billion.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has sent a project proposal titled 'Enhancement of Operational Capability of Bangladesh Coast Guard' to the cabinet division for the public purchase committee's seal of approval.
Besides, introduction of digital driving licence at a cost of Tk 749 million for Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will also be placed at the purchase committee's meeting next week for its nod.
