Govt to procure 0.13m tonnes of fertiliser, 50,000 tonnes of wheat

The government Wednesday approved separate proposals for procurement of 130,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to meet the growing demand in the country, reports BSS.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) gave its nod to the proposals at its meeting held virtually, with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Md Abdul Barik said the meeting approved a total of six proposals.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 100,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Living Stone Resources of Belgrade at a cost of around Tk 10.39 billion. The price of each metric tonne of MOP fertiliser would be around $1,100.
Abdul Barik said the meeting approved another proposal from the Ministry of Industries under which the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO under the first lot for the current fiscal year at a cost of around Tk 1.59 billion. The price of each metric tonne of urea fertiliser would be $567.50.
The Ministry of Food will also procure some 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat from Intra Business Pte Ltd., Singapore for the current fiscal year at a cost of around Tk 2.23 billion. Each metric tonne of wheat would cost $476.31.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the work for constructing a nine-storey office building and a 10-storey residential building, involving Tk 3.27 billion, under a project for construction of a multi-storey building for the Department of Public Libraries has been awarded to the joint venture of PAEL, NDE and Mir Akhter.
The work for installing a wellhead compressor at locations E and G of Titas Gas Fields, involving around Tk 4.09 billion, has been awarded to the consortium of Zicom Equipments Pte Ltd., Singapore and AG Equipment Company, the USA.
