Govt to procure 0.7m tonnes of paddy, rice

The government fixed on Sunday procurement prices of Aman paddy and rice for this year.
The Aman paddy procurement price has been fixed at Tk 30 per kg while boiled rice at Tk 44 per kg and non-boiled rice at Tk 43 per kg.
The development came during a meeting of the food planning and monitoring committee at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder told the media that the government will start procuring the paddy and rice from next month.
He said that under the programme, the government would buy a total of 0.4 million (four lakh) tonnes of boiled rice and 0.1 million (one lakh) tonnes of nonboiled rice and 0.2 million ( two lakh tones) of paddy.
He said that the country's food grain stock is in a good position.
He further said that around 0.45 million tonnes (4.5 lakh tonnes) will arrive in the country soon.
Mr Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that 0.4 million tonnes (4 lakh tones) of paddy was supposed to be purchased in the last Boro season but the government collected only 0.2 million tonnes (2 lakh tones).
