Govt to provide smart ID to citizens in 2015

The government would provide smart Identification Card to citizens from the beginning of 2015. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq told the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) on Saturday in reply to a question from independent member M Rustom Ali Forazi. He informed the House that the government has taken a project on ‘Identification System for Enhancing access to Services (IDEA) under Election Commission’, keeping a provision to provide smart ID card to citizens. Anisul Huq, also minister in-charge on Election Commission Secretariat in the Parliament, said implementation work of the IDEA project began on July 1, 2011 and is expected to be completed on June 30, 2016. The minister said the project is being implemented with the assistance of World Bank. Under the project, an international tender has been floated for giving smart ID card to citizens after implementation of the project, he further informed in reply to a query of the independent MP from Pirojpur, according to BSS.
