Govt to review minimum wage issue: Ministry
Monday, 13 December 2010
In the wake of widespread violence in garment factories at different parts of the country, the labour minister has assured the workers of reviewing their minimum wage and urged them to refrain from vandalism, reports agencies.
Labour minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain Sunday said discriminations in the wage structure declared this year will be removed after scrutiny.
"But the law will take its own course, in case of further anarchy," he warned the workers.
He was talking to newsmen at the Secretariat as reports of demonstrations by workers were pouring in from industrial belts in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chittagong.
Meanwhile, in another programme in the city, Labour and Employment Minister sought support from International Labour Organization (ILO) for forming responsible trade unions (TUs) in ready-made garment (RMG) units to ensure workers' rights.
