Bangladesh will seek Chinese loan support worth around US$ 4 billion for six specific projects during Prime Minister’s forthcoming China visit, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Wednesday.
“In formal bilateral discussions, the issue of Chinese loan support for six projects will be discussed,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Foreign Ministry.
However, the project of Sonadia deep seaport construction is not among the six infrastructures and power plant projects though it will be discussed during the visit.
“There could be discussions between the two countries on building Sonadia deep seaport with Chinese support during the visit,” said the Foreign Minister.
The six projects for which Bangladesh will seek Chinese loan support are 1320 megawatt coal-fired power plant at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district, Rajshahi Wasa water treatment plant project, multilane tunnels beneath the Karnaphuli River, second railway bridge in Kalurghat area of Chittagong on the Karnaphuli, establishing rail-network through Chittagong-Ramu-Cox’s Bazar and Ramu-Gundhum and Info-government project, phase three, according to UNB.
