Govt to seek leave to 'appeal in four nat'l leaders' killing case'
Wednesday, 4 November 2009
State Minister for Law Advocate Qamrul Islam said Tuesday that the government would seek hearing on leave to appeal in the four national leaders' killing case after the completion of the Bangabandhu Murder Case.
He said this while talking to newsmen after placing wreaths and taking part at a Milad Mahfil organised commemorating the killing of four national leaders at cell No. 1 in Dhaka Central Jail, reports UNB.
Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, AHM Qamruzzaman and Captain Mansur Ali were brutally killed in that cell on November 3 in 1975 after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his family on August 15, 1975.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun, State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, State Minister for Law Advocate Qamrul Islam and local lawmaker Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin placed wreaths and joined the Milad Mahfil at about 11:30am.
They also placed wreaths at a 'Kamini' tree planted by Bangabandhu during his prison life.
Mr Qamrul said trial court earlier gave death sentence to three accused and life imprisonment to six others, but the High Court upheld death sentence of one accused. He alleged that the past four-party alliance government had "tried to divert the case."
Talking to reporters, Home Minister Sahara Khatun said construction work has already started on the Commemorative Structure representing six-point demand inside Dhaka Central Jail.
Alongside the structure, a memorial will also be built to commemorate the killing of the four national leaders.
