Govt to set up 3 more public universities in country

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that her government had a plan to set up three more public universities in the country in future, reports BSS.
"The programme to set up public universities in the country is on, and under this programme, more universities would be set up at different places in Bangladesh," the PM said while replying to a tabled question from Treasury Bench member Muhammad Imaj Uddin Pramanik (Naogaon-4).
Under the programme, these public universities would be set up in Barisal divisional city, Goapalganj and Rangamati districts.
Apart from this, the PM said, "Bangladesh Textile University Act, 2010" was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad last month to upgrade the College of Textile Technology, Tejgaon to a university.
Sheikh Hasina said work on setting up a digital university at Gazipur aiming at building Bangladesh a modern and digital one in line with the government's Vision-2021 is going on.
Besides, the PM said the matter relating to setting up of Rabindra University at Shilaidah under Kushtia district and an academic Bhaban of the university in Shajadpur under Sirajganj district is under government's active consideration.
