Friday, 3 April 2009

Commerce Minister Faruk Khan said Thursday the government would take initiative to establish an 'Agro-product Export Village' in Dhaka to expand our global markets for such products, reports UNB.
He advised the leaders of Bangladesh Fruits, Vegetables and Allied Products Exporters Association (BFVAPEA) to select a suitable place near the Zia International Airport for the proposed export village within the shortest possible time.
"We'll go ahead with the plan if you select a suitable place for it," the commerce minister told a BFVAPEA delegation, led by its President SM Jahangir Hossain, during a meeting at his office.
Lt Col (retired)Faruk Khan also indicated government's plan to set up a permanent exhibition centre for agro-based products also near the airport so that products with export-potential could be displayed round the year.
The BFVAPEA president urged the minister to increase the subsidy against export of agro-products which was currently fixed at 20 per cent.
Later, two delegations of Bangladesh Super Market Owners Association (BSOA) and Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) also called on the minister in his office.
BSOA President Niaz Rahim and BCI President Shahedul Islam Helal led their respective delegations.
