Govt to strengthen credit scheme for working kids

The government is pledge-bound to rehabilitate the children engaged in hazardous work.brAdviser for Labour and Employment M Anwarul Iqbal said this while speaking at a meeting arranged for strengthening the credit distribution programme under the Child Labour Eradication Project (2nd Phase) in the conference room of the ministry in the city Sunday, reports BSS.brUnder the project, Tk 200 million (20 crore) loan will be disbursed through Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) and various non-government organisations (NGOs) among 30,000 families of the children engaged in risky jobs. brThe poor families in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal City Corporations, and Savar and Keraniganj in the Dhaka district will get the loans. brUnder the project, the children are being provided with vocational education from November 2006 to October 2008. They will be given training on capacity-building from November 2008. brActing secretary of the ministry Dr Mahfuzul Haque, Joint Secretary AK Nazmuzzaman and BRDB Chairman M Ismail Hossain were present.
